Q I mean that you did any work in prior to 1900. A We worked in there more or less on them at various times; during that year we were working near Bluff and in Grand gulch. Q Is that above or below Bluff? A The Grand gulch is below Bluff. Q How far below Bluff? A About forty miles to where we would go down in the canyon. Q Were those ruins in the gulch or in the San Juan river? A In the gulch. Q You, of course, went there by pack train? A Yes. Q Now when next did you have any occasion to be in Utah? A I was in Utah -- I don't remember the next time I was there, but in 1894 and 1896 I was in Utah. Q What parts of Utah were you in 1894 and 1896? A Over on the McElmo, the lower McElmo, Montezuma creek. Q Where is that with respect to Bluff? A McElmo is the first stream of any size that comes in |
