Show 3584 Wetherill- D 1606 Juan to Lees Ferry that you can get down? A At the crossing near the Crossing of the Fathers there is quite a little stretch where you can get down in a number of places; the rim is only about one hundred feet above the river; there is many places you can get down, where the Indians have been crossing; above that there is the mouth of Rainbow bridge canyon, and that is the only place above there you can get down with stock, at the mouth of the Bridge canyon; I don't know the distance along the river -- you have got to go about thirty- five miles to get around from one trail to the other. Q What is the purpose of crossing with stock of this river? A To get the stock on the other side. Q That is, you would buy stock over on the west side of the river? A No, my pack stock and saddle stock I had with the party that I would be with. Q Then these pack trains you would just take them down into the canyon, then out on the other side? A Take them down to the river where I could get a boat and swim the stock and cross the river and go out on the other side, and come back across somewhere above or below, which-ever the occasion might be. Q At what places have you actually made those kind of crossings? |
