Show 3572 1594 83 Dellenbaugh that had been stuck up years before in crevices, and we were able to get out that way to the plateau above; that is above Cataract; Stillwater canyon we found quite a well- preserved ruin on a point there; evidently had been a look- out. Q Indian ruin? A Indian ruin. And back in was a little bottom land, then a trail up the cliffs high cliffs there, about twelve hundred feet high, I suppose. RECROSS EXAMINATION BY MR. FARNSWORTH: Q Did you find these Indian ruins at other points in the canyon than those where the bottom lands were present? A Oh, you will find those everywhere in the canyon; even in the Grand canyon you will find them, where there is no bottom land; they seemed to build these granaries in the holes in the cliff in order to store their things. Q Did you find them in portions of the canyon where, so far as You observed, there were no evidences of trails up to the rim? A I think not, but of course a good many places where they went Out they cut hand- holds and foot- holds in the cliffs: are washed away; you can't tell where they go out. Q You did see them in a number of places where there were no evidences, so far se you observed, of a path or other way up |
