Show 3560 1582 71 Dellenbaugh- C Q You simply let your boat head downstream, and you went straight downstream, and occasionally struck a shoal? A Of course we did as we always did, we picked our way always on the river as well as we could. Q That is what I am getting at. Did you go from side to side of the river, at all, in trying to locate a channel? A I suppose more or less we must have done so. Q It is merely a matter of recollection; of course, you might have done, we all recognize that, even though we were not there; we know you may or may not have done it. What is your recollec-tion about it? Did you? A My recollection is those ledges extended all the way across the river; that is my recollection, every place where we tried to get down we found those ledges in those places. Q Of uniform height? A We couldn't tell; they were under water. Q You couldn't tell? A No. Q The water was muddy? A Not very muddy. Q You didn't make a sufficient examination to be able to state at any one of those shoals that there may not have been a suffi-ciently deep channel fifty feet one side or the other of where you went? A No; there might have been a channel, of course. |
