BLACKMAR: Q On this same exhibit, Mr. Dellenbaugh, the tracing in blue represents your trip from Kanab up to Salt Lake City? A Yes, that one trip when I carried the map. Q Mr. Dellenbaugh, in your study of the west have you had occa-sion to investigate the route used by the fur traders? A Yes. Q Was there extensive fur trapping in and about the Green river? A Yes. Q Commencing at what period? A About 1840, I should say, perhaps a little earlier, 1835 or 1840, somewhere around there. Q How were those furs moved out of that country? A By pack train. Q To where? A Well, the objective was St. Louis; they went by several routes to St. Louis; they went down the Arkansas and down the Platte. |
