Q At what point did they take up the trail to Monterey? A I don't think they went to Monterey very much; they would go up the coast from there to Monterey; they wouldn't go through here; that was more difficult. The trail generally was from Los Angeles to Santa Fe. Q At about what point, or how far from the Colorado river did it leave the Virgin river? A From the Colorado river? Well, let's see, I should say about forty miles, thirty- five or forty miles. Q From the Colorado river? A Yes, it left it right there, just before you cross over to the Muddy, just above the mouth of the Muddy; I don't remember exactly what that distance is; it must be certainly thirty miles or more. Q In your investigation of the historical data surrounding this Spanish trail, did you find that the Spaniards or people work-ing with them used either the San Juan, the Green, or the Colorado river?
