Show 3500 1522 11 Dellenbaugh- D A No, we did not. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q Was this party re- supplied between Green River, Wyoming, and Gunnison Crossing? A Yes; at the mouth of Duchesne we had rations brought in from Salt Lake City to the Indian Agency at Uintah, Uintah Indian Agency; from there they were carted down to us. Q Were they brought in overland from Salt Lake City? A Overland by wagon. Q They were not brought down on the river? A Oh, no; no, they couldn't do that. Q Did this expedition spend any time at Gunnison Crossing? A We spent just long enough there to take in some rations which Major Powell went out to Manti to get. He went out at the Duchesne to get these rations, because the party that was to take rations in to us at the mouth of the Dirty Devil river couldn't find the river, couldn't get down there, so we had to take on some extra supplies that came in by way of Manti to Gunnison crossing. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q What if the date of the first Powell expedition? A 1869. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q Were those supplies which you got at Gunnison Crossing, were they brought in overland? |
