Show 1888.] THE CARPUS AND TARSUS OF THE ANURA. 179 Walterstorff has recently published (37, 38) an exhaustive account of certain fossil frogs, and of the Palseobatrachidse in particular. He claims to have discovered a series of connecting-links between the Arcifera (Pelobatidae) arrd the Aglossa. He has pointed to the equality in length of the 3rd and 4th digits of the hind limb in certain of his specimens, and his deductions receive additional support from the fact that in some of those the third digit appears to have even exceeded the fourth in length, as we have shown to be the case in the living Pipa.
