Show Blake- C 942 A Yes, and when I was rowing in quieter stretches my back would be downstream, except my head turned over my shoulder in order to steer my course. Q The other two men with you had never been on that river before, so far so you were aware, had they? A No sir. Q Now, in answer to a question by counsel as to whether or not you could have taken your boat back up the Green river from the mouth of the San Rafael, you said that you could not take it up as a row boat, as I recall your answer? A Yes sir. Q Just what did you mean by that? A The water was too swift to row against. Q What did you mean by saying you could not take it up as a row boat? A I meant I couldn't take it up by rowing. Q Didn't you mean by that also that you could have taken it up in some other way, by poling, for instance? A No sir, it never entered my mind. Q It is your judgment that you could not have gotten the boat Back up to Greenriver? A Not by rowing. Q In any way, by the river? A Not other than pulling it by a rope, or some other means of attachment. 2912 |
