Show Blake- D 916 and had to place a piece of wood or log in the shore water upon which to step in order to reach our boat in removing our goods for the evening camp. Then, proceeding from here, we went about a mile, and came to another riffle, and gravel bar. The center of the river showed by appearance that the water was extremely shallow; there was an almost exposed gravel bar in the center of the river. This place had been used as a ford for teams, there was a wagon track going in and out of the water there. We made readings across this stretch, I don't know how wide the river was, but the water I believe was about two feet deep in the deepest place, possibly slightly over; the notes will show it, but I don't remember. At this shallow place I didn't hold a rod upon the top of any gravel, but just in the water, and it was only a few inches deep; I believe the water was not over two inches deep above the highest of the gravel in the bar. From here we proceeded on to the Halverson ranch. At this place Mr. Hoyt wished to go ashore, so as to continue his map making and the drawings of the character of the river.
