BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q High? A Yes sir. You could take the level of the river, it went up twelve feet above that level. Be low the wave there is a hollow place; you can get twelve fast from the top of the wave to the bottom of that hollow place. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q In taking the boat through, it is necessary to hit that wave head on, isn't it? A Yes. There are not so many of those in a rapid, two or three, and we would endeavor to keep a straight course in going through those; then if we had to avoid rocks, try to get some place where the waves weren't so large, and turn quartering to the current and work out of that channel into a new one. Q In going through a rapid of this character, you invariably get water in your boat, don't you? A Lots of times the boat would fill -- the open compartment would fill instantly with one of those waves; we would be seated in water clear up to the guanelo. Q Now tell me about Narrow canyon.
