We finally came out, by constant rowing and drifting, came out to the end of the enclosed district there, of the low walls which had been on either side of the river. we landed on the left shore, on the high bank -- next to a high bank, and made camp there. Then below here we struck some more gravel bars, which is typical, clear to the Wimmer ranch. Just below the Wimmer ranch, near his old water wheel, there was very swift water, and this swift water was split by an island. We landed on the left shore, near the old water wheel. The character of the bed of the river is gravel. If a person is not careful, they will run into the bottom of it; have to be careful of the channel, and take the deepest part. On below we found deep, placid water; opposite the upper and of the Wimmer ranch the sandstone cliffs rise - Q What do you mean, deep water?
