Show Blake- D 880 Q What year was that? A The year 1921. Q What took you on the San Juan river? A I was hired as a rod man with the Geological Survey, and at certain portions of the San Juan where the river was a little dangerous or where it was impossible for the regularly hired boatman to make a return trip on foot alongshore after the second boat, I would take the second boat. Q Had you lived in the San Juan country prior to the time you took this boat trip? A Not in the vicinity of the San Juan river, but in San Juan county, Utah. Q Had you had any experience prior to that time of the San Juan river? A No. Q How many times have you been on the San Juan river? A Just the one trip. Q Whereabouts did you enter the river on that trip? A The boats were launched four miles below Bluff, Utah. I took the boat the first time just above what is known as the Narrows on the San Juan. Q Before we get into that, do you know of your own knowledge where these boats came from? A I don't know where they were built for sure; they were transported by trucks, I believe, from Greenriver, Utah, to 2850 |
