Show Blake- D 892 Q Did you have any difficulty with the boat in that stretch of the river? MR. FARNSWORTH: Which stretch are you speaking of now? MR. BLACKMAR: From his camp on the San Juan down to the place where the survey ended, near Oak creek. A There was, as I remember it, no great difficulty. At times we might strike the sand just for a short time; we were not stuck seriously on sandbars, as I remember it. Q Were you stuck tight enough so somebody had to get out in the water and push? A I don't remember any special instance where we were. Q When you finished up at Oak creek, then where did you do? A We went on to Lee's Ferry. Q That was a continuous trip? A I believe from Oak creek it was continuous with the exception of one night's camp. Q Did you experience any difficulty with the operations of the boats between Oak creek and Lee's Ferry, and if so, what was it? A I wish to correct my evidence, now that of recollection returns. I think we mapped a side canyon or two below Oak creek; I remember going up one side canyon on the left side of the river to where there was an alcove, and returning to the river; which causes me to believe we might have done other 2862 |
