FARNSWORTH: Q What kind of Canoe was this? A Peterboro. It is build in Canada. It is stronger than the ordinary pleasure canoe. It is strongly reinforced with ribs that are an inch and half wide, and only a half an inch apart, and they give a cross section, and it was covered with canvas drawn very tight, treated with rubber. They are used on exploration trips. Fiala, who was with Roosevelt, used them. Q What was the length and weight of the canoe? A It was eighteen feet in length; it is wider than the ordinary canoe. Q Eighteen by what? A Eighteen by three and a half foot beam. Q And the weight? A About two hundred pounds. We put bulkheads -- had carpenters put bulkheads into that, and put a very light deck over it, or a hatch at both ends. Q The load was haw much?
