Show Prommel- D 994 desert, extending from Green river desert south to the junction of the Dirty Devil of Freemont river with the Colorado river. Where did that examination commence, at what place? The Green river desert examination? Yes. It commenced north of what is known as the Flat Tops; in fact, it took in -- the recognizance examination took in the whole area from Greenriver south to the junction of the Dirty Devil and the Colorado river. How far west did your examinations go? It went to the Dirty Devil river. About how many square miles in there did you examine? On the recognizance area there must have been a thousand square miles, which was later followed by detailed survey of approximately thirteen townships. In that thousand square miles just tell me what kind of country that is. The country is divided from the top down to a series of benches or plateaus, the upper one being known as the Green river desert; this is covered mainly by wind- blown sand and sand dunes; towards the south end, by considerable cedar timber. Adjacent to this upland is a vertical cliff three hundred feet high, followed by a talus slops about four hundred feet high, being a very steep talus slope. 2964 |
