Show Kolb- D 814 A The Edison people paid my wages. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q By " The Edison people" you mean what company? A The southern California Edison Electric Company. Q Mr. LaRue of that party, did he have anything to do with the operation of the boats? A No sir, with this exception, that after we got out of Cataract canyon Mr. LaRue and Mr. Page took one of the boats through a certain section of that, and also they took one boat and went ahead the first day, before we stared from Greenriver, down to the junction, so they could climb out on top; when they came to Cataract canyon -- perhaps I am getting ahead of this. There were two others in the party I haven't mentioned yet. Q All right. A Henry Rauch was assistant to my brother, not included in the personnel of the party, and Frank Stout was an Edison employes sent along as recorder to the engineers. Q Turn back to your first trip for just a minute. Those boats you started with at Green River, Wyoming, where did you get those boats? A Mr. Julius F Stone had gone through in 1909; he was accompanied by Nathan Galloway, of whom I spoke before, who made a business of trapping in the upper canyons; he worked out that type of boat. Mr. Stone gave us the plan of the boats that he uses, and we amplified them a little by adding decks. 2784 |
