Show Blake- D 893 work which I do not recall. Q With reference to the boats, did you have any difficulty with the sand between Oak creek and Lee's Ferry? A At one place above Lee's Ferry, through poor judgment I ran into a mud bar. We had pretty good head of water, as I remember it, most of the distance from the mouth of the San Juan to Lee's Ferry. THE SPECIAL MASTER: Has this witness given what month this survey was in? I don't find it. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q Do you know the date you started, the date that you started from Bluff? A 18th day of July -- 18th or 19th of July, 1921. Q What day did you land at Lee's Ferry? A 9th day of December, I believe. Q The same year? A The same year. Do you recollect of you asked we before if we experienced any difficulty in the San Juan river with the boats on the first part of the San Juan trip? Q If I did not, you can answer now. A I recall we had six distinct floods during the latter part of July, and the first day of August it seems that we had one of the largest floods we had encountered. All these made boating difficult. 2863 |
