And what are the numbers of the topography sheets? MR. HOYR: Sheets 37 to 44 of Exhibit 10. MR. FARNSWORTH: That is the Trimble party survey? MR. BLACKMAR: Yes. Q Mr. Blake, what was the boat equipment which you had for that party? A The boat equipment? Q Yes. A That means the full equipment which we carried? Q No, the character of the boats. A The character of the boats? Q Size and depth, draft, and so forth. A They were eighteen- foot Galloway type boats, covered decks, cock- pit in the center. They had a beam of nearly five feet, with a rake of about four inches, I think; they were flat bottom, non- keel boats; they had a raised hatch above the sloping deck, with screw fasteners fastening the hatch covers on, with rubber gaskets to prevent seepage of water into the supposedly air- tight compartments. Q What do you mean, supposedly air- tight compartments? A If there should be any wear around the rubber gasket, the gasket should become torn or anything of that sort, at times it was possible for the water to seep in in small amounts, if 2868 |
