Show Blake- D 891 placer miners down there? A No miners. Q When you reached the Colorado river, where did you go? A We first made an excursion up the Colorado to the Hole- in- the- Rock. Q I didn't get that last answer. ( Last answer read.) Q How far up the Colorado is the Hole- in- the- Rock? A Between four and five miles, I think it is. Q How did you make that trip? A Bert Loper and I took the empty boats and rower them up, while the rest of the party walked alongshore. Q After you made that inspection on the Hole- in- the- Rock, then where did you go? A All of the party entered the boats, and we returned to our camp at the moth of the San Juan river. Q Then where did you go from there? A We surveyed and mapped the Colorado on down below the mouth of the San Juan, and continued our course as far as Lea's Ferry. Q Did your survey end there at the mouth of the San Juan? A No sir. Q Where did the survey end? A It ended, I believe, at a place we called Oak creek, which is several miles below Rock creek on the Colorado river. 2861 |
