Show Blake- D 924 Q Did you encounter those sandbars through Labyrinth canyon? A Yes sir. Q Frequently, or was it just occasionally? A It was frequently, as long as there was no flood stage. During the flood stage we went along very nicely. Q What about when you got into Stillwater canyon, did you still have the sandbars? A There were some, but they were few. Q Few? A Yes sir. the walls close in, the walls of sandstone close in, making the river somewhat narrower, I believe. This narrower condition causes the river to be deeper. Q After you got to the junction or to the mouth of the Green river, then you turned and went up the Colorado river? A We first proceeded down the river for two or three miles. Q That is, to view the cataracts? A Yes sir. Q Just omit that, and tell about the trip up the Colorado river. A Well, from the mouth of the Green up the Colorado river we had the motor; I believe the boat with the motor drew somewhere near twenty- two inches of water, and this additional depth of draft caused us a great deal of grief, due to sandbars.
