Show Prommel- D 996 that time two or three men staying at that camp, doing occasional assessment work. That was after the period that the leasing law became affective, but they were still going on on the placer claims doing the assessment work. Outside of that there is the camp of Joe Biddleton-- rather, his brother -- he is dead now -- at that time he was living . He has the only permanent residence, and of course also has a residence in Greenriver , Utah, but he established a house there. Q Where is that located ? Is that still on the San Rafael? A That is south of the San Rafael river; it is about sixty miles, roughly , below Greenriver; it can be reached by automobile road on the Green river desert plateau. Further south, about twenty miles, is the old , uninhabited camp of an engineer by the name of Wolverton, who was in that country in the early days, around 1914 or 1915, interested in oil placer claims in the Elaterite basin. He established a camp there, and brought in overland a small oil rig to drill prospect holes , which rig he lowered over the Spanish trail and over the cliffs into Elaterite basin. Outside of those, there are in the winter months sheep herders, which move from place to place. Those are the only inhabitants. There is no town of any size. Did you have anything to do with the drilling of Shafer No. 1? 2966 |
