Show Blake- D 882 know the weight. Q Do you know how many inches of water they drew? A When not loaded, I would estimate they would not draw three inches; I am not certain. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q When loaded? A When unloaded, not loaded. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q When the boats were loaded, how much did they draw? A At times, with loads and passengers, where we had to ride where we all had to ride, the boats were within about four inches of the top of the sides; I believe the sides were sixteen inches high; that would make twelve inches. Q What did you do the first day after these boats were put in the water? A I was hired as rod man, carried rod over the desert, over the sand hills into Butler wash, down Butler wash to the river, to the camp site near the mouth of Butler wash, as I remember. Q Where is Butler wash with reference to Bluff? A I don't believe I know the distance; it is down the river from Bluff, on the right- hand side of the river. THE SPECIAL MASTER: Did he say Butler, or Butter? THE WITNESS: Butler. THE SPECIAL MASTER: There is a Butter wash on the map here; probably the same thing; comes in near Comb wash 2852 |
