Show Kolb- D 826 to the water, it didn't give it the opportunity of meandering; I don't know that there are any islands sticking above the water in Stillwater canyon. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q What date did you arrive at the mouth of the Green river? A September 15th we camped a short distance above the junction, and we passed the junction at an early hour of September 16th, and the men began their survey at the junction. From that time on, we wouldn't go so fast. Q From the point where you started on September 17th to the first cataract in Cataract canyon, did you have any trouble there with the sandbars? A I don't remember that we did. We separated the boats; we knew there was bad water ahead; and the speed began to pick up some, and for three and 2 half miles -- it is three and a half miles to the first rapid -- we had some trouble with the motor getting caught, and we took it off the boat and put it under the deck. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q Just one minute, before we get too far away from this junction. How much of that period from September 11th to 16th that it took to get down to the junction was absorbed in time taken out for surveys and so on? A None whatever; that part had been surveyed. Q That was all continuous progress? A That was all continuous progress. 2796 |
