Show Kolb- D 824 " Struck one sandbar." Q On down through Labyrinth canyon did you have trouble with the sandbars? MR. FARNSWORTH: Just what miles was that? MR. BLACKMAR: From sixty- one to sixty- eight above the junction. A At the Double- Bowknot we had trouble; we reached the Bowknot at 10: 55. BY MR. FARNSWORTH: Q The second day? A Yes sir. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q Did you have any more trouble with the sandbars in Labyrinth canyon? A Yes, wed did. This motor I speak of, it was on a hinge, or was arranged so when we would run on to anything it would come up, and it wouldn't injure it. But we had difficulty frequently of that kind, because our speed was greater than it was with the row boats, and sometimes we knew there was a channel, but didn't have chance; it wouldn't steer quick enough to make that channel; it would want to go ahead in the straight channel, -- wouldn't make the turn quickly enough, and would run on to a sandbar. More often, though, it was because we didn't know just where the channel was and where the deep water was. In this Double Bowknot that I speak of, there are raised centers 2794 |
