Show Kolb- D 808 A When we went through we were using Dellenbaugh's book as a guide book, and Major Powell had just estimated distances in a rough sort of way, just by judging from one bend to another, and he gave the distance as just about one hundred miles; that takes in part of Grand canyon. The recent surveys have shortened that distance by a few miles; they have shortened the length of Marble canyon. Q Did you carry Dellenbaugh's book with you? A Yes, one of his books; he has two; we used the Canyon Voyage, and that was our guide book. Q You referred to it daily? A Yes sir. Q You spoke yesterday about a party of men who were constructing some kind of boat near Lee's Ferry? A Yes sir. Q Do you know where that boat is today? A I have never seen it since; people have told me -- THE SPECIAL MASTER: Never mind. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q What date did you complete your voyage to Lee's Ferry? THE SPECIAL MASTER: Supposing, if he has got his note book, he gives us all the dates he was to look up yesterday. A These notes I have here, I just went through my complete notes and selected dates when I reached certain points. They are not the complete notes; they are copies I made last night. 2778 |
