Show Kolb- D 807 to get it into the record. A Yes sir. About sight and a half miles below the mouth of the San Juan. It is my impression that the river dose not have as great a fall from there down to Lee's Ferry as it does in the upper part of Glen canyon, especially that section in the vicinity of Hall's creek. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q You mean your impression as gained from your ease or difficulty of running your boats? A Yes sir. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q Now, from that last rapid into Lee's Ferry, did you experience any difficulty with sand, grounding? A We would touch our boats -- we would run on to sand bars which would check our speed; we had extra cars on the deck of the boats; we would loosen one of those and use that as a pole and try to push back upstream, the same way we had come in; they would stop us for a while; we would try to get back, and judge by the action of the water which way the current was going and which way it was turning, and try to follow that current. Q Now, after you got to Lee's Ferry did you continue on down the river? A Yes, we did. Q How far is it from Lee's Ferry to the Grand canyon? 2777 |
