Show -3- John Bushman diary 1918 February Feb. 7, 1918. We went through for John Hoyle. 4 :30 I went to the State Capitol & got ?apers for some reward for services in the Black Hawk war. Also visited Mrs Andrew Allen. 7 :30 attended meeting in the 17th Ward chapel. Judge Nelson of the Juvenile court, he said there was 2,800 cases brought before him in 1917 of youth from 7 years old to 17 years old. They never sent them to jail, they put them in a reform school. Said many were reforme d. The Chief of Police also spoke. Said there was not nearly so many arrests last 6 months & that Salt lake City was freer from dens of vice than it had been for years. Apostle George A. Smith spoke good on care of childre n. Feb. 8: Went through the temple for Richard Moyle and came home at 4:00, found a 11 we 11. Feb. 9: Our grandd_a ughter & babe came here from ?rovo. Feb. 10: Sunday. 2 p.m. went to America n Fork to Union Meeting, big turnout, good talks, at 5:30 we had su?per with Elmore Rhodes~ his 59 birth- day. They had his wife's parents & Bro. & Sisters . Bro. !Jartin & Albert & vi ves had an excellen t supper. 7:30 went to meeting . George Child gave a talk on the worth of A. Lincoln & wrAt he done for America . Feb. 11: This day, 53 years today Lois A. Smith & I were rrarriad . We spent the day quietly with Cordelia Morehea d & our granddaug;.'1-i.ter and her husband Gilbert Meldrum . Feb. 12: Evening I attended a cottage meeting at Wm. presidin g, most all the men spoke well. Guerney s, Enoch Rusen? Feb. 13: We came to Salt lake and went through the temple for ----• Feb. 14: Went through the temple for Gillis Fromcoi se Dennis. Visited Frank Cumming s. Feb. 15: Went through the temple for Jacques Fortescu e and we came home in the evening . Our grandda ughter Lois Meldrum & I went to the dancing academy & witnesse d the basket ball between America n Fork & Lehi, There was a l~rge crowd and there was a great roar all the time. Lehi won by 14, I could not enjoy such confusio n & noise. We came home when the game w•3.s half out. Wrote letters Saturda y. Feb. 17: Sunday. 9 a.m. attended Prayer Circle &: lead in blessing the oil. The circle do not aoprove of card pl~ying . 2 p.m. attended sacrame nt meeting . Judge i'T elson was the speaker . 7 :30 the mutua 1 had Jud ge te 11 of Oliver Cowdreys testimon y of the divinity of the Book of Mormon after he left the church, which he never . denied. Grandda ughter Sadie Smith came from Provo & returned in the evening |
