B.W.Growns wife was visited after the death of James Carter and burial and was told that Carters garments were not marked. June 3: Sunday. John L. 0 ushman took us to Hol~rook in his auto at 6 a.m. and we got our tickets and start at 7 :30 a.m. Sister CNrens &: Hartwell Tanner & girl, Miss shumway are with us. Have a pleasant ride to Barstow. June 4: We change cars at Barstow at 2 a.m. It is very warm crossing the desert. Met Ernest Higby, father & brother at Los Vegas, seemed to glad to see us, we took a s leaper. June 5: 4 a.m. we arrive at Provo. S ilas D. Smith and daughter Daphne & June meet us at station & t ake us to their home. r'ou nd all well, visited all day. June 6: Silas took us to Lehi in auto, found sister Sarah Rhodes very sick with kidney trouble, is not ex?ected tolive long. Her reason is good. I stop here a 11 night. Silas, Maria & wife went back to Provo. June 7: Sister Sarah is a little better, all her children are here from Idaho. Had a nice visit with them, talked on genealogy work. In the evening I co:,_me to Provo. 74 today. June 8: Phoned to Lehi and learned Sister Sarah was better. I a.9plied for a Liberty Loand Bond of $100. June 9: Came to Lahi, found sister on the mend, but weak. Stop with her all day. She is anxious about temple work for her son Ma.rcelus who died last summer at Garland. June 10: Sunday. Bro. Martin, E. Em9ey &: I went to Salt Lake & attended the Mutual Conference. The Fi rst Presidency all spoke on loyalty to our country, and for the you~g men that join the army to live their religion & honor their calling & they couid be blessed. We C'.'1.me back to Lehi at 5 :15 p.m. In the evening a number of the relatives gathered at Sisters & Martin read what ha.d been done in the family organization and the names of those that had joined. They seemed intarested i'1 the work. The Hulton? testimony was read. |
