Show -8- John Bushman diary 1917 August Aug. 5, 1917: At 8 a.m. attended the prayer circle by invitation of the Pres., A.J.Evans and was admitted as a member. 9 a.m. attended priesthood r.eeting & dismissed. 2 p.m~attended sacrament meeting. a fine lecture. 7:30 p.m. attended Mutual & heard Vforking around the house all the week & helped Bro. Martin some. Paid check to R.J .Vfhipple for lumber $120.80 and are owing Morgan Lott for plumbing $70, and Hyru.."11 Webb for carpenter work $16, all to be paid the last of August. Aug. 12: Sunday. 9 a.m. attended priesthood meeting. 10:30 attended Sabbath School & opened by Prayer. 2 :35 attended Union Meeting at American Fork where Pres. S.L.Chipman gave instructions to the quorums that they should attend to all their duties. A Bro. Booth whom had enlisted for the army in France spoke on the condition he found among the soldiers, that nearly all used tobacco & lude language. But that as he was a Mormon & had been on a mission, also that several others were, he expected to do all he could to reform others. Monday and Tuesday the 13th and 14th done some painting & got ready to go to the temple. Aug. 15: Wife & I ea.me to the temple and I went through for Mathew Fortescue. In the evening I met Eugene Cummings of Arizona, he is with his uncle in the second hand f't%rnitura business and doing well. Aug. 16: Went through the temple for another John Fortescue and went to the genealogical society library. Aug. 17: Went through the temple for Ma.thaw Fortescue. Got through at l :30 p.m. & came to Lehi at 4:20. Got cloth to make robes for prayer circle. Aug. 18: Worked a.round the house, afternoon helped Elmore R..11.odes stack hay while his wife made my robe for prayer circle. Aug. 19: Sunday. 8 a.m. attended prayer circle & lead in blessing the oil. 9 a.m. attended priesthood meeting. 2 p.m. attended sacrament meeting when we were received into the ward. Aug. 20: Worked for Elmore Rhodes ½day, about 4 hours. Aug. 21: ·worked for Bro. wartin all day hauling wheat. We received a letter from Rev. J.H.Smith from Texas. Aug. 22: We answered the letter from Rev. J .H.Smith at Campbell, Texas. He is Lois' cousin. We hope to get considerable genealogy- from him. Seems a fine man. Aug. 23: Came with the excursion from Aloine Stake to the temple. There are 150. I went through for Mathew Fortescue and Martha S.Bushman & Flora B. Zimmerman & Emma Gurney all took names for us. |
