Street cars run all over the Principal streets •• I visited Barton 3ros. nanufacturing esta b lishment. But they only are making ments shoes, all done with machinery. They turn out 500 pairs per- da y. 'ifent to the depot to watch for my Bros., f a iled to coma, I think on account of high water. Stop all night at 1421 South Yfestern States Mission head quarters. Get board and lodg ing near by. July 12: 1.'fent to depot for my brothers, stayed until 8:30, failed to come. I came be.ck to headquarters. Pres. Ben E. Rich came from Ohio, they talked over the progress of the work in the miss ion field. Went to station again in the evening I went on the street with the Brethren to hold meeting. There 'Nere several other denominations holding meetings. The ma.in streets are nicely lit up and crov,ded with people. After singing and (prayer) ?res. Duffin and counselor England spoke. ?ras. Rich came up and talked to the crowd who gave good attention. He told them of the fruits of mormonism, in re gard to salvation for the living and dead, after which there were a good :many tracts distributed, and the people were invited to meeting at 1421 Locust St. 111 ent to my old lodf ing place, very anxious about my brothers. Julv 13: Sunday. Went to the depot a ga in only to be disappointed. Came back had a bath and. attended S. School and offered the opening prayer, after which went up t mm and had di..'1.!le r. Rich occupied all most a 11 the time in comparing this dis?ensation and the former dispensations, very fine. Julv 14: I went to the depot but brothers did not come. At 10 a.m. I got a card to say that Brothers were at Chicago. I sent them a telegram that I would meet them next morning. I visited a 11 day with the Brethren and start for Chicago at 6 p.m. July 15: At 7 :30 arrived at Chicago. Went to Hotel Grace and found my Bros. 111 ri ght. Bro. Albert & I went to see Pres. Woodruff of the Northern States 1!ission and he seemed willing to assist us in getting rates on the R. Roads, g,fter which we went t o the city directory and found some 3 urches names and trieci. to hunt them up but failed to find any. We stop g_ll together at the :fota l Grace. July. 16: Raining, we ·went uo to Pres. Woodruff's office and he rnade arrangement l for us to get 2 f are back to 1.\ontrose, Ill. (Iowa)? At 11 a.m. we all vis ited.
