Show -4- John Bushman diary 1916 May-June Our grs.ndson Silas A. us to our daughter r-.: .B.Smith. 1,'.ay 31, 1916: Today we arrived at Provo at 4 p.m. 3ushma.n met us at st3.tion with car to take lcound all well and very pleased to see us. Afternoon went to grand musical (Isaiah) a rendition of the ?rophecies of Isaiah in song. It is very grand & impressive. Prof. Lund had his choir under perfect control. This lasted over 2 hours. June 1, 1916: At 11 a.m. the college graduates gave their farewell entertainment in College Hall. Our grs.nddaughter Lois Smith got ?ermission for us to attend the banquet at 3 p.m. given by the university. We sit down to the tables at 3 p.m. and there was 5 courses served very daintily. During the meal there was many fine S?eeches and sentiments given. June 2, 1916: At 10 a .m. through the kindness of our grand daughte~ Lois we were admitted to the commencement exero ises where 26Q student graduates received degrees & diplomas. The exercises were very inspiring & impressive. All went to show the influence of this university and the good to the Church. Also showed the far-reaching effects of the Church School, all of which is very satisfactory. Afternoon we went tow. Frisby's and had a nice visit with all the Frisbys. They seemed pleased to see us. Thursday evening (June 1) we went to a grand ball of the students. The professors 9.11 took part in the dance. The hall is beautiful&: large. Talked with Pres. Brimhall who said the Bushman students were among the best. Fred, Silas & Florence are all happy. June 3: Aunt E. Foscue and cousin Ellen came to Ma.rias &: we had a nice visit. In the evening I came to Lehi and met Bras. Martin and Aloert. A.ls~ sister Sarah Rhodes. All were well and pleased to see us. Grandson Fred is here. Stop all night, had a good visit. June 4: Sunday. Attended s. School in 2 ward, also meeting at 2 p.m. and spoke a feiN minutes. There were 3 children blessed and a lady spoke in tongues. James Kirkham gave the interpretation. It was a warning for mothers to guard their children. Said to be the oure language of Adam. In the evening we visited John Saby who is very sick. Bro. Martin & I administered to him. June 5, 1916: Visited around till 10 a.m. then came to Salt lake City and after trying about 15 places we got a room from Orson Hyde near the templt, No. 20 w. North Temple St. for ten dollars per month. St9.y here all night. June 6: Went to temple gate and learned we could take our reoomminds to the templs in the morning to corrmtenca our temple work. Went to the Orem terminus and met Lois & }·! aria and took them to our room. We visited around some. June 7: We went to the temple at 8 :20 and there were many more there than could get admission. Will come at 11 a.m. 11 a.m. we go to the temple & at 12 m ,ve got admittance. I went through for Robert Fortescue, got through at 7 p.m. Today I am 73 years old. |
