Show -21John Bushman diary 1916 October Oct. 14: 1916: (Continued) to record the work. We visited Anna Christofferson &: the Peterson relatives and sister Sarah who is feeling real well and a.t 5 p.m. we bade farewell to a 11 our dear relativ-es & came to Provo & stop with our daughter Maria & stayed all night. Rainy, have a nice visit with l.laria and fa!l},ily. Oct. 15: I visited Fred & Silas, at 10 :30 attended S. School & was asked to offer the invocation. Uet with parents class where they discussed training parents. 2 p.m. attended union meeting in the University, the different wards were to give 1 Sunday to each organization to advise :,the people of the wards. After dinner we all went to say farewell to Aunt Eliza. 7:30 we went to B. Y .U. and heard Elder O.F .Whitney lecture on Mormonism. Oct. 16: Said farewell to the Westover family. At 10 a .m. went to the University and witnessed the Founders Day para.de. Each class marched together in fine order. It was 3 blocks long. At 10 :30 a 11 went into the assembly room, each class shouting their class yells. Call to order at 10:45, several fine selections were rendered. Sister Inez Knight Allen gave the principal talk which was very good & very instructive. I gave Lois Smith & Emma each a check for $25 for a wedding present. After a good dinner we came to the Union Sta.t ion and boarded the train at 3:20 for Salt lake. And left there at 5:15 for Barstow. As we did not have time to check our baggage, the conductor telegraphed for them to forward it to Barstow. We had a tourist (s leepar). Oct. 17: Poor nights rest, we arrived at Barstow at 12 m and left at 3 p.m. Oct. 18: We arrived home at 7 a.m. & found all well and pleased to see us. There was much rain hara recently. We enjoyed the association of the people, I assisted our sons in their ,vork. November I was appointed class lea.der in place of S.M.Portar for High Priests class, which duty I fill to the best of my ability. Nov. 15: Attended stake conference at Snovrflake, had a orofitabla time. No visitors. Assisted the ·ward tea.chars the last of November. Sister Margaret Shelley is very sick. Dec. 24: She is very sick with heart trouble & Dr. Brmvn says she c~nnot live but 8. few days. We administered oi 1 & !)rayed for her & I felt that she would live & that some of those present would die before she would. For two weeks we administered to her often. She is improving, but slowly. Paid the last of our tithing for 1916, total for the year $180.00. |
