Show -13John Bushman diary 1917 October Oct. 16: 1917: Helped Elmore on beet bed f ore n oon. 1 n.m. attended funeral services for J .A .Bushman. A sketch of his life, the speakers were E. Southwick , Fred Worlton & A .J .Evans. Several nice pieces were sung. Several aut os went to the grave. I was asked to dedicate the grave . Oct. 17:_Snowi ng and blowing. We came to the city & went through the temple after noon for Thomas C. St. Ledger. We stop with sister Hyde, the old place. Oct. 18: Went through for Thomas Lisdall, after which went to see a lady to sell Sadie Smith ret u rn ticket. She paid $10 on it, is to 9a.y $11 more when she gets through. Her name is Eliza Alespach? Oct. 19: Went through the temp le for George T isda 11? We came home in t h e evening, found all well. Oct. 20: Helped Elmore Rhodes to pick potatoes. Oct. 21, 1917: Sunday. Pres. A.J.Evans asked me to accompany h im to Pleasant Grove to attend 3rd ward conferer~ ce. We went to Margaret Brows, her daughter (granddau ghter) is very sick. We anr:ointed her &: administe red to her. Attended S. School at 10 :30. Had dinner with B. Walker, attended ward conferenc e. At 2 p.m. after the authoriti es were presented & sustained , Pres. Evans asked me to talk to them. I spoke on the necessity of sustainin g our leaders, that they may lead us aright. Showed that we live in an in1portant dispensat ion. Pres. Evar1s gave a fine address on the ancient & modern prophecy on war &c. We came home in the evening. Oct. 22.: Helped Elmore Rhodes to get U!J :Jotatoes. 7:30 attended priesthoo d Meeting. Oct. 23: Watered our lot qnd wrote let-:;ers. Oct. 24: We came to the temple, I went through for GeraJ.d Fortescue . We engaged a bed of sister Clayton in the Relief S ociety home. It is a . folding bed in. the parlor. Bro. Henry McCune has stayed here 4 years, he is a rggular temple worker, of English descent, vras born in India came to Utah in 1853, settled at Niphi, he & wife came in & had a good visit. CoiJ. 25: Went through the tem?le for William John Kerr, after which I went to nanna.H 1.a.pishes & son Joseph who is blind from his birth. In the evening Bro. and sister 1'IcCune came in & had a visit• Oct. 26: I went through the temple for Thorras Fortescue after which wife &: hvent to the American Theatre. At 2 p.m. where all the old people were invited to celebrate the anniversa ry o f the Owners Birthday. He gave the entert~inm ent last year for the old people free and said any old person was welcome to come f ree at any entertain ment. The music was fine. president c.vr.Penr ·,se spoke well. |
