Vle were busy annual tithing reports and accounts until Jan. 15th. 15: After this worked on the farm and public irrigation Co. works the of January. John Bushman diary Jo.n. with Jrn. rest 1911 J9.nua.ry-February-March Feb. 1, 1911: Continued working on farm and our ward have agreed to make a litt la park on the ward lot opposite J .H.Richards residence. We sent for 143 shade and ornamental trees to the German Nurseries on 28th. On the 6th a cancerous growth appeared on my right cheek between the eye and ear. Then we applied the concentrated oil No. 3, the same as we used 5 ye9.rs before on the left cheek. The growth seems to grow fast and on the 28th we telegraphed B.F. Bye for more medicine. We had no reply until March 9 when we received the medicine fro1:1 a Dr. D.M.Bye. Now the growth is so large we decide to go to Los Angeles to consult Dr. Chamley, a cancer specialist. !larch 10, 1911: I boarded the train for Los Angeles, cost of fare $22.85, had a pleasant ride of 24 hours. Y.arch 11: Arrived at Los Angeles at 7 :10 went out in town and found Luella Uc.all & her brother David and her cousin Jam. Udalls daughter and a Bro. Pace from Thatcher all attending high school. They had me eat breakfast with them, after which David came with me to 147 to consult D'r. S.R.Chamley about the cancer on my face. He said it was bad, but said he would insure a pel"l'i'anent cure for $500, half down, b9.lance when cured. I paid him $60 down, the balance as soon as I could send for it. Dr. aoplied the medicine as 11:30 a.m •• David Udallwent to the station Afternoon I wrote letters home for mcn:sy. Medicine does not pain much. &: got my suit case &c. !~rch 12: Sunday. Slept pretty well, have more ?ain this morning. I have a nice room & boe.rd with the Dr. for $10.50 per week in advance. I wrote letters to O.A.Leftwick & Sarah Rhodes. The Dr. dressed my face at 9:30 a.m. and asked to stay in most all day which I have done & slept some. This evening while on the street I met a Bro. Liljenquist formerly from Hyrum, Cache' Co. Said he had filled a mission to Southern States, had been married and his wife & babe died. He came here and bought grocery stand, has taken to drink & says he cannot stop. I told him it was never too late & encouraged him to try. His case is a sad one. Said he had no friends and he did not care. The buz on the streets lasted to after 12 m an(.:. commenced at 4 a.m. !arch 13: Slept pretty well, always have breakfast at 7 a.m •• Wrote a letter to JRsse giving some instructions about the work &c. Went down town to post office. No letters. The streets are not laid out with reference to the corn• pas. M11.ny fine business blocks & fine buildings.
