Show -8John Bushman diary 1899: August-Sept ember Au~ . 7: 1899: Mowing lucern, very warm. 1!Te have had very little rain here, but the river has been hi gh. Preparing for our Vfard Conference. Presidents Smith & Hatch came on Saturday evening. Aug. 13: Sunday. 9 a .m. the S. School met and had a review of each class. 10:30 ward conference commenced. After the openin p; exercises I made some opening remarks after which Pres. Smith & Hs.tch spoke & touched on the law of Ti thing. Pres, 'Smith and vrife Janet took dinner with us. 2 p.m. after opening exercises- Fpresented the General, Stake and Ward a.uthori ties which were a 11 with one exception unanimously sustained. Pres. Richards spoke, also Pres. Smith. 8 p.m. held eve.'.:. ing mee.ting. ?res. Ha. tch & ·Sr.ii th both spoke on the necessity of the latter-day Se.ints in this country, not associating with outsiders &c . Alto &;ether we had an excellent conference. Aug. 14: Turned cooler, hauled some hay, watering &c. all the week. Au~ust 20: Sunday.I vras tending the water forenoon. Supts. J,A.i'fost & A.L. Rogers of Sabbath School came and talked to the school. 2 ?•m• attended meetin °; , the speakers were A .L.Rogers, Wilford Hatch &: J.A.West, all spoke well. We are threshing. 'Ne had 204 bu wheat, 115 oats. Aur;. 27: Sunday. 10 a .m. attended S. Schoo 1. 2 p .m. attended meeting, the &peakers were S . M.Porter and H.H.Tanner. We done some plowing and hauled some hay from Aztec Companies rneadovr. Se~t. 1, 1899: Our da u ghter June and m:r son John L. and I came to Woodruff to attend Quarterly Conference . At 2 p.m. attended the Hi ~h Council meeting. After org<J.nizin g the council the ca se of G. M.Ada.ms was broue;ht up by Bp. ?.ansen of ShovrlO'tT ·ward. After the case was presented and spoke upon by those appointed, the charge wa s sustained, that he A.dams had !'la.de improper advances to several women and the decision was g iven that his priesthood should be taken a.VTa.y & he be cut off. The subject of nay ing for the care of the Stake House & tele graph office at SnoVTflake which had been paid out of the tithing. It was agreed it whould be proportioned to the vra rds. After which Pre s. Snith spoke of the practice we have had on not allowir.g stra.np;ers t ake oa rt in our da.nces, and asked if this should be continued or not. Explained how th..9.t r.ule ha d b een ad opted &c. He called the following to speak on it: Pres. L.H . P..at ch, Bp . J. Hunt, H. Hansen , Bp . L •.M . Sa.va.ge, !3p. J. Bushnan a nd asked for any othe rs that wished to speak on it. All seemed to agree tha.t the rule should be c on tinued. Pres. Richards s <:d d there had b e en some thin gs done recently at St. Joseph which would have to b e me.de ri f~ht on they would be brought here. He looked white with anger.
