Differences between the grades and salaries of women and men arise not 'Only from differences in types of jobs held, but also from differences in length of service. For example, a special study by the Civil Service Oommission 'Of Federal employment records revealed thac in 1963 the average length of service was 11.2 years for women hut 15.1 years for 16 About 26 percent of the women, but only 10 percent of the men, men. had less than 5 years 'Of service.
