It was the first flour mill established in the valley in 1860. In 1865 the building was remodeled and enlarged. Because of the rise in production of wheat due to the spread of dry farming and irrigation there was room for the flour milling industry. There were six mills in 1880 and sixteen in 1910. The Thatcher mill could mill 1,100 bushels of grain per day by 1888,... .An elevator was added in 1886 and thus increased the capacity to. 40,000 bushels.-- This mill was probably-the largest in Utah and Idaho at the turn of the century. Thatcher Milling and Elevator Company went out of business during the depression. |
