The second story windows are large and topped with segmented brick. The building is crowned with a very heavy and ornate cornice with equally heavy bracketing that is the highlight of thefront: facade. The roof is flat-topped as is natural with the commercial style. The building is one of the early examples of the commercial in Logan and certainly one of the biggest and best preserved. This building, like the two adjacent to it on the street, were all owned by the Thatcher Brothers who were so dominant in the commercial enterprises in the valley and later throughout Utah. This building was constructed in 1902 by George W. Thatcher. It was originally built to house the Studebaker Wagon Company and was later divided into two retail areas. George Thatcher was the first manager of the Thatcher Brothers Bank and one of the organizers of the first light company. |
