Show Stage-Present An apron has been built over the old orchestra pit area; a new.grand drape installed; the old blocks and ropes of the rigging system replaced with new ones and additional lines added.; the softwood floor was sanded and covered with linoleum; the asbestos curtain has been cleaned and touched up; the rear wall of the stage has been sand plastered and is now.used as a partial cyclorama; the side walls of the stage have teoen painted black and a spiral staircase installed DR replacing a very steep and narrow.wooded one. Air emergency light has been installed on stage* Basement-Original Originally all- but two. of the dressings rooms were very small and all of. them were dingy, damp and depressing* Sometimes, water from the back alley drained into the basement and covered portions of the floors. Some areas of. the basement had dirfr floors 0 The two rest rooms used by audiences and backstage personnel were dingy and looked unsanitary. Parts of the building "s rock founda tion were visable and insecure. Some walls in the basement area were so damp that plaster was continually peeling from them. In some places the ceilings were so low that one had to stoop to keep from bumping them. The heating system was forced air and the furnace was. fired by soft coal. On hot summer evenings the theatre was cooled byplacing large blocks of ice in an air duct. Basements-present. Alterations made by Utah State University include: pouring of cement floors in all areas; removal of old dressing rooms and building of two new;chorus type rooms in their place; installation, of new rest room for b.ackstage personnel; rep last e ring and painting of all walls; reinforcing of bearing walls; installation of perfor mance speakers in dressing rooms; building of storage cabinets 0 The heating system has bsen improved and the furnace changed from coal to gas burning. An air conditioning system has been installed. Part of the equipment for the system is in the old coal room* Additional Improvements f Timbers in roof which had been charred by a fire in the old projection room have been replaced; a smoke detection system has been installed; part of the air conditioning equipment lias .".been placed in the shop-storage area and a water tower for this system has been placed on the roof. The theatre has been completely re-wired; a new control board for stage lighting, wall and floor pockets for lighting instruments have been installed* |
