The partnership was the city's doctor, Oliver Ormsby, and a merchant, B. F. Riter, who built the structure in 1885. The partnership lasted until 1891 when it became Riter Brothers Drug. Pioneer Drug was the first store of its kind in the valley, and this status helped Riter Brs. Drug to become a success also. Logan's newspaper in 1892 writes the following about this early drug store: "In addition to the immense stock of drugs, patent medicines, paints and oils, they carry one of the finest lines of wines, liquors, and beers to be found in northern Utah." In describing Mr. Riter, the Logan Leader states that he had a "well established reputation as an accommodating business man and a jolly fellow." The drug store is gone now and many stores have since occupied the building, the present one being an optical shop. |
