Show its proscenium arch, apron and asbestos curtain. The right photograph shows the new continental seating arrangement of the lower floor, the new rail across the center portion of the balcony and new walls at the rear of the lower floor and balcony. Alterations which may not be evident in the photograph include the following: 1. Seating capacity reduced to permit the building . o.£ a larger, lobby,pprojection room, balcony office (now a storage space), and a room for light and sound control* 2.. Seat a, we re re-upholstered in. red imitation leather* 3* New hardwood floors were laid in lower floor and balcony. 4. Acoustic tile laid on main ceiling but not on ceiling under balcony. This ceiling is covered with old fashioned celotex. 5. Plaster ornamentation repaired and re-painted (gold "antiqued 11 with a white rubbing). 6. New carpet in aisles, 7.« Plaster portions of wall, ceilings and woodwork painted, 8. Brass rail added to balcony railing. 9. Shield and coats of arms on proscenium repainted. During the time the Lyric was leased by Intermountain Theatres, the proscenium and all of its ornament at iors were painted black to prevent reflection of light from movie screen. The coates of arms and shields were restored by Allan 3-ranstrom, a theatre student of USU 0 The German coat of- arms on the left was mutilated during World War I and has never been restored. Mr* G-ranstrom painted the shield gold and added a silver band to the blackened portion of the emblem. It is our intention to restore or replace this coat of arms. 10. Speakers were installed in the curve of the proscenium arch. 11. A storage space for a grand piano was built under the front of the stage. 12. Beam ports for lighting instruments were placed in the ceiling* 13» Flocked wall paper was hung inside the panels of the walls and proscenium arch. 14. A steal beam was placed across the ceiling of the auditorium* The old ceiling abov-e the balcony area had sagged about 7." which made raising it and installing the beam necessary. Stage-Original The old stage was shallower than the present one. It had a hemp flying system with locally made blocks in the grid.. (Some of these have been kept as souvenirs.) The floor of the stage was soft wood. |
