Show Fig 1. This figure shows the average number of pitches sung to syllables containing both [aiɹ] and [ail] in comparison to the control ([aɹ] for [aiɹ] words and [al] for [ail] words. The following artists produced significantly more pitches for [aiɹ] words than for controls: Ben Folds (BSF), Billy Joel (WMJ), John Mayer (JCM), Ryan Tedder (RTD), and Suzanne Vega (SNV).
