Show -51- It will be noted that after the completion of the Southern Pacific Railroad through Yuma, and the Santa Fe Railroad through The Needles, California, that the river traffic has very greatly diminished. The further construction of railroads or wagon roads would undoubtedly tend to still further diminish this traffic. It may be stated that there has been during the past year no traffic on the river between Ehrenberg and the Needles, and none from the Needles to points up streams. The United States Geological Survey has been making some explorations for bed rock at a possible dam site 30 miles above Needles and after trying to use the river for navigation purposes we have abandoned this effort in favor of teaming. The following measurements have been made of the Colorado River at Yuma:- Gauge height. Discharge. Date. Hydrographer. (feet) (sec. ft.) Remarks Mch. 15, 1876 U. S.
