The genera peculiar to America are Procyon, Nasua, Cercoleptes, Bassaris, Bassaricyon, Taxidea, Mephitis, Conepatus, Galictis, Grisonia, Lyncodon, and Enhydra. The genera peculiar to the Old World are those already enumerated as peculiar to Asia and to Africa respectively, with the addition of Mellivora, Aonyx, and Meles. There are thus eleven exclusively Old-World and twelve exclusively New-World genera. The Ethiopian and Neotropical regions are poor in Arctoids, as is also the Indian Archipelago. TABLE I.
