Show JOHN TANNER 11 William Tanner, born May 9, 1751, in South Kingston, R. 1. Married February 16, 1771, Ruth C. Brown, daughter of John Brown. She was born July 5, 1751. She died May 4, 1825, age 73 years 10 months. They had five children: Wifliam B., born Oct. 13, 1772; Anstis, born April 19, 1776; Ruth, born Aug. 18, 1778; Susannah, born May 30, 1786; Francis B., born April 14, 1793. William Tanner removed to Ridgeway, then in Geneseo County soon after 1800 .. He was a pioneer in Orleans County, settled in Gaines about 1816. He died Sept. 23, 1831, age 80 years, 5 months and 14 days.: This branch of the Tanners is noted for its sterling qualities from Francis Tanner of Hopkinton, whose record is in Colonial History down through William and his son, William .B., to the present. "Just and honest in their deal ings, true to the principles of Free Masonry, loyal to his chosen church," such is the tribute paid to Samuel N. The record shows that he was Justice of the Peace, South Kingstown, 1762, 1765, and of Hopkinton, 1770. The name of Francis Tanner, Esq., and Mrs. Tanner, wife to Francis, appear on the list of members of the Seventh Day Baptist Church of Westerly, R. I., now Hopkinton, among those added be tween 1740 and 1750. The records show that he took an active interest in everything pertaining to the welfare. of the colony.
