Show CHAPTER 16 COhe Tanners in Arizona and the Southwest The first of the John Tanner family to visit Arizona was Albert, who marched with the Mormon Battalion in 1846. Brown was married to Lydia Jane Tanner, daughter of Nathan and Rachel Tanner of south Cottonwood, and of course was well acquainted with members of the Tanner family. Experience would show that the choice of Seth B. Tanner was a wise one. north Seth was forty-seven years of age at the time of the call, and had family of seven children ranging from three to fifteen. The mother of the children, Charlotte Levi Tanner, had died after the birth of the youngest, and Seth had the care of the motherless children. There is no information as to who looked after the children in his absence. He made ready for the trip, and the party consisting of fourteen, a were set apart October 11, 1875, for the mission. 2 |
