Show John Tanner and His Family 408 Bancroft Library Utah Manuscripts pf: 81: 149 11/10/'88 Dictation of * Myron Tanner * * - Provo, Utah * born in Bolton N. Y. in 1826 and in 1834 our family went to Kirtland Ohio and in 1837 moved to Far West Mo and were driven out in 1838 and went over to Illinois and lived about a year eighteen miles from and in 1840 went to Iowa four miles from Montrose and in I was Quincey spring of 1846 we started west. On July 16th my brother Albert the and myself enlisted in the Morm Bat Albert in Co B and I in Co D. I was taken sick before we got to Santa Fee and was taken back to Pueblo with Capt. Brown and Wintered there in 1847 we got Salt Lake four days behind the pioneers. In August of 47 I returned to Winter Quar ters and in the summer of 49 came to Salt Lake and in the spring of 50 went to Cala and worked in the mines 2Y2 years at McDowell Hill. I then and lived until 1856. Then came to Salt Lake with horses and in 1857 married and settled at Payson and lived there until (end p. 1) the fall of 1860 and then came to Provo where I have went to San Bernardino City since lived. I have been on the City Council 16 years and 15 years Select man of the Co and have been Bishop over 20 years. I have been engaged in Milling and interested in the Co-operative Store Provo Mills and the Stock herd and have been farming and stock raising on my I have been Vice Pres of the Co-operative Store since its organization and Vice Pres of the Mills since 77. Myron, Seth My father John Tanner brought to Utah six children Co-operative own a&. - E., Joseph S., David D., and Sariah. Sidney-John Jr. Nathan and Maria L. (Mrs. Amasa Lyman) came with families of their own. And four sons and one daughter did not B. Freeman come here. |
