Mother Elizabeth Beswick, age eighty-one, whose principal home was Payson, did not take part in the planning sessions, but came to the reunion. The committee members who promoted the reunion were repre sentative and well chosen; Nathan from Cottonwood-Salt Lake; Myron from Provo; Joseph S. from Payson, and Mary Jane, wife of Myron, was the secretary and made the report which follows. The choice of Payson as the place of the meeting seems wise it contained the largest number of Tanners and was centrally located. - THE TANNER REUNION! A reunion of the Tanner family, being the descendants of father John Tanner, formerly of Bolton, New York, was held on Thursday, December 25, 1884, at Payson, Utah County. Many of the family were there, and many sent in their regrets, at being able to come. The Payson Opera house was engaged for not the occasion. 2 There were seven brothers, and one sister on the stand, viz: Sidney, John J., Nathan, Maria Lyman, Myron, Freeman, - S. and Dan. Of those who were absent, Matilda Randall resides at Kirtland, Ohio. Martin Henry at Paulsboro, N. J., Seth B. at Moancoppy, Arizona: Elisha, the eldest, has been dead some years. William, if still living, resides in New York State: Albert died leaving a family at Buena Ventura, Calif. Joseph The genealogy of the family, as far as secured, gives a total of 484 literal descendants. One family is not yet reported. There were present about 140. at 11 a.m. on Christmas morning, the Payson choir in attendance. James S. Brown was chaplain. The sacrament was passed," after which the brothers and sisters each made an address. Mother Tanner, 81 years of age, was present on the stand. The eldest brother was 75 years of age, and the youngest 46 years Meeting opened was old. |
