Show 365 Appendix all will be well. I have been personally acquainted with Brigham Young, Heber C. Kimball, George A. Smith, J edediah M. Grant and more or less with Pres. Taylor and all the leading men and their families. Also with Eliza R. Snow, Zina D. Young, Emeline B. Wells, Basheba Smith, M. T. Smoot, Jane S. Richards and many others, and I can testify that they are women of intelligence, holding pure and upright principles and worthy of the highest respect from any community. I also know that the lives of many of those who have left the Church are not free from reproach. Many of those, who are most bitter in their denunciations, and loudest in their acusations against the people pure and I give this never were upright in their own principles. as my testimony, if it will be of any use to Mr. Bancroft in his writings he is welcome to it, or if he wishes to ask any questions which I can answer, or have answered, I will take pleasure in communi cating with him. I present you with my little book of poems which is just published, and my photograph, which I do through the politeness of Bro. and Sister F. D. Richards by whose invitation I have addressed to you this little sketch. Yours with respect M. J. Tanner [Mary Jane Tanner, wife of Provo, Utah To Mrs. Bancroft San Francisco. Myron] |
